Quote of the Post
The men I hated most of all were those who tried to give me advice, or told me they wanted to rescue me from the life I was leading. I used to hate them more than the others because they thought they were better than I was and could help me change my life. They saw themselves in some kind of chivalrous role- a role they had failed to play under other circumstances. They wanted to feel noble and elevated by reminding me of the fact that I was low. They were saying to themselves: ‘See how wonderful I am. I’m trying to lift her out of the mud before it’s too late, that slut of a woman’
- Nawal El Sadaawi, Woman at Point Zero

The day started out very negatively for me. I showed up early for my Women’s Studies class and while I was walking around I started talking to Ian- he is the only boy in our Women’s Studies class. The last time in class I thought I heard him saying something sexist to a girl in the class and I thought I had misheard him. But today I asked him what his major was and he said it was Philosophy- and then he said, “the most predominantly male major of every possible major” except I haven’t worded it right- he was quoting a statistic and even mentioned his bloody source. I was very proud of him for recognizing and admitting that his major was predominantly male until he started saying, “yes I am white, male and embracing the hegemonic system. I like the hegemonic system”
Photobucket
…?
You are all groaning I am sure at what you imagine to be my reaction to this - at the time I was very pissed off. I had been proud and very happy with him because he was the only guy who stayed in Women’s Studies with all of the girls. After he said it I smiled and said I was still happy he was in Women’s Studies. Then we went into the classroom and I noticed he didn’t seem to be taking the material seriously and all of the girls- whenever he said something remotely sexist- would just ignore it and laugh with him….
I said I was angry at first but I am confused now. I am wondering if I misunderstood what he meant? Or if I made him nervous and he was babbling?
Anyway the class started out very negatively and then I found myself walking home with such great spirits that you can hardly imagine- I feel so liberated and I cant believe I even cared about the damn boy. First we talked about the sexualiization problem of women of different cultures. Particularly Asian culture- they are seen as mysterious and exotic. Or the sexualization of Muslim women- either as women who are pure as the driven snow and never have sex or women who are mysterious and need to be “unveiled”
No Commen Hijab
We watched a movie (called Under One Sky) that showed several Arab women discussing the Hijab- the veil some women in certain cultures wear.
Honestly saying this- my original thoughts (around 3 years ago) when looking at these women was: oh look, they are oppressed. Now I think: oh look- they must be miserable because it is SO hot. Strangely enough my MS changed my thinking about things because the heat seems to be just as prevalent in my mind as feminism. But after watching this video I realize how very…narrow I had been. Apparently there is more back story behind the Hijab than I had originally thought. Whilst women in England were fighting for rights the British men were fighting against it- and yet using feminism to try and conquer Middle Eastern nations. They were trying to “save” the women by taking of their veils- a symbol of oppression to them when really it is a symbol of ONLY ONE thing- a culture.
Photobucket Hijab Protest
That was their lie- their lie that they cared about the oppression of women and were trying to remove the veils when really they were just trying to colonize another nation. So some of the women in the nations where they had worn Hijab’s and also tried to colonize had split perspective. There was the perspective of SOME women (not all women) who didn’t wear the Hijab that thought the Hijab was a symbol of oppression of women. And then there were some women that saw the Hijab as a symbol of fighting the oppression of culture inflicted by people who tried to colonize their nation….so all in all what I am going to think now when I see a woman wearing a Hijab is this: it is REALLY hot out here- that woman must care very much about her cause- whatever it may be.

So I jumped out of the truck and now my ankles hurt and have bruises around the foot like I’m wearing an anklet.
How are you?
Jerry and my mom are back together and all I do now is read feminist literature. I just don’t get it, when men cheat on women for that many years, the woman should kick his ass out the door. But she thinks she has to stay with him to “save her family” whatever.
Actually I’m ok with Jerry right now; I just thought I’d update you with what’s going on in my life….a huge flat nothing. I’m ok with jerry because yesterday I was in their room and he showed me two valentine cards I gave him in elementary school and they said, “to dad love shay”
I don’t think I’ve called him dad SINCE elementary school. He just doesn’t deserve it, and yet I still felt bad.
Photobucket
What’s going on with me? I have now, from the first year of junior high to the last year of high school, switched schools halfway through. I have never completed a whole year, since elementary school, in the same school.
Speaking of schools, I’m going to Weber, which kicks ass. Then I think I will end up going to the U. and I probably won’t have to pay much, because now that I have MS I get a ton of scholarships, funny how the world works out isn’t it?
Though I don’t really feel so blasé about it as I sound; today my mom and I went to Sadiq’s office (my neurologist) because I want to switch to another neurologist and there was this dude sitting in a wheelchair, blind, the wheelchair meaning he couldn’t walk, waiting for his appointment with Dr. Sadiq…. I was looking at my future. The dude obviously has Rapidly Progressive MS and is completely miserable. And I just KNOW that my vision is gonna go, cause that’s the thing I care about most.
Photobucket
Oh but I found my phone! I hope this is an upturn and I will find my camera next =D
What’s going on with all of you guys? I haven’t been on in this long time because we found out Jerry was looking at pornography, so now I have to use my Grandma’s computer. I?
I have completely immersed myself more in feminism, which is saying something, gained 20 pounds, almost broken my ankles, have moved to a new house, MIGHT be having a relapse in my MS, have graduated high school early, am thinking of dying my hair blonde, and spend my whole days sleeping, reading, and watching TV.
Photobucket
As for the MS, I have been having Déjà vu flashbacks for three days straight now (if you don’t know what those are too bad for you) and I don’t really sleep well. As for graduating early, it sucks. I miss my friends and I wish I was back in school. I always do this, I knew I would regret it when I left, but I did it anyway.
As for the hair blonde, it’s only because it’s the only color I have never gone; every other color I have died my hair. But, no offense to you other blondes who might be reading this, don’t think I’m ready for people to TREAT me like a blonde, ya know?
I just feel like people might treat me differently, are any of you blonde, do you know?

Today is known to some as the Day of Infamy, in commemoration of what happened at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. In your lifetime, what date sticks out as the most memorable in terms of world events?

View 500 Answers

Easily 9/11. Everybody else probably has the same answer. But Pear Harbor is just as remembered for me as 9/11, it's tradition for me, I watch the movie Pearl Harbor every December 7th. I do that a lot; I watch Titanic on April 5th, May 20th I watch My Fair Lady (Yes, I know it’s not associated with a disaster in history =), Malfoy’s birthday I read a shit load of fanfiction, I don’t forget days easily =D

“You know,” she remembered Luna telling her, after she and Ron had just fought. He’d pleaded for Hermione to head over to Luna’s flat to see if she could mediate between the two. “You know that love really isn’t what they say it is, right? In the books? In the fairytales? Nobody comes and rescues you from your tower. Nobody fights off a big bad witch or even slays a fucking dragon. The problem is that everyone does what they can to make a show of it, to make love extravagant, like it’s a show that everyone has to watch. Why can’t love be. . . hidden? A secret? Since when did love have to be shouted from every corner of the room? And if they can’t see love, why do they have to doubt it – assume it isn’t there?
“It’s because people have over heightened expectations. And – it’s not their fault, either. It’s nobody’s fault. It’s just that sometimes, it’s gets to be a little too much. That’s not what love is about. It’s not about declarations and making sure everyone knows what’s yours.”
Luna had been particularly incensed that day, and Hermione hadn’t known why, either. She and Ron fought about big things, little things – just things, regularly.
“Then what,” asked Hermione, “is it about?”
“I don’t know. That’s the truth, too. I have no fucking clue what love is about, but all I know is that it’s not about that. And sometimes that’s all you need, you know? Nobody has a clear definition of what life is, and yet here we are, living. You just have to know what it isn’t about. The rest is okay not being known.”

Probably Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin, it's ingenious.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll

you are mediumauqamarine
#66CDAA

Your dominant hues are cyan and green. Although you definately strive to be logical you care about people and know there's a time and place for thinking emotionally. Your head rules most things but your heart rules others, and getting them to meet in the middle takes a lot of your energy some days.

Your saturation level is medium - You're not the most decisive go-getter, but you can get a job done when it's required of you. You probably don't think the world can change for you and don't want to spend too much effort trying to force it.

Your outlook on life is brighter than most people's. You like the idea of influencing things for the better and find hope in situations where others might give up. You're not exactly a bouncy sunshine but things in your world generally look up.

#AFEEEE

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is low - You stay out of stressful situations and advise others to do the same. You may not be the go-to person when something really needs done, but you know never to blow things out of proportion.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Are we talking Stephanie Meyer books? I don’t care, now we are.
I have gone over to the dark side…well, not really OVER to the dark side, its more like Im jumping back and forth between Edward and Jacob.
When I first read New Moon I looked ahead to see if Edward came back. You don’t know what a statement that is; I’ve never looked ahead before. And I get soo mad at people who do. I must have yelled at six or seven people when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows came out and they read the epilogue. After I looked ahead I skimmed through the parts with no Edward as fast as I could, until I got to the part where they meet again. That was ok with me…then.
This was back in what….2007? Well in early 2008 I remembered something Stephanie Meyer said on her website. She said that she wanted fans to read New Moon twice, because people missed the Jacob moments because they were on tiptoes for Edward. The thing about me is that I can’t just read a book once…I read it again and again. And my re-reading of New Moon was the exact same as my other favorite books; I skip the parts I don’t like. So basically I would just go and read the Edward parts in New Moon every time. I thought about what Stephanie Meyer said and re-read all of New Moon, without rushing, and found something extremely interesting...
I enjoyed Jacob thoroughly!! He was so nice and so funny and I loved him. I felt bad that she had to turn him down (I was staunchly on Edwards team then, not going back and forth as I am now). I wanted him to go and imprint on some other girl and things be ok.

I recently picket up Twilight again, and read through all of my favorite parts. Then I started on New Moon. Then I got stuck on one line, and I just read it over and over again.

He was gone.

I have no idea why but I just lost my breath when he left her, and thought of Jacob. Now…all of a sudden, Im mad at Edward, think he is inhuman and think it wouldn’t be so bad if she did end up with Jacob?

What the hell?

I mean, I still think that it would be totally uncharacteristic of Bella to choose Jacob, don’t get me wrong. She is completely infatuated with Edward, and what’s more she never changes her mind after she’s made it up to do something.

But all of a sudden…..I don’t know what sticker I am going to iron on to my shirt this upcoming august 2nd.

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Maybe I will wear both.

The other day I was at a doctor’s appointment. I arrived ten minutes late or something and had to sit in the waiting room forever, but it was totally worth it.
I love to study people. Most are interesting, and the ones that are boring are even more interesting. While I was in the waiting room a woman came in with her two daughters. I suck at deducting age but I think it’s safe to say that Holly was around 2 and Sue was 5ish. Yes I know there names, no it was not stalkerish. I know Holly’s name because Sue kept trying to get Holly to look at things, “Holly! Come here” “Holly don’t touch the flowers” she was a bit bossy. Ok…maybe I was a bit stalkerish, but I can’t help it, Im just so interested in people. I know so much about people I haven’t even talked too! Like people in school, once they catch my interest I watch them and then hear things about them and remember everything. Then one day I wake up and I find I know their favorite color and what their hobbies are…? Ok…its weird/evil, whatever.
Photobucket
I will permit myself to admit that they were adorable. I know, it’s weird/hypocritical for me; I must be a sexist. It’s just little boys that piss me off. Anyway these two girls were fascinated by the garbage can. This garbage can was bright silver and had one of those doors that spins if you push it? I don’t really know how to describe it, but you probably know what Im talking about. Anyway they both went up to the garbage can and played with it for what had to be 6 or 7 minutes. Then the doctor came in and called their mother in and they followed. A few more minutes passed and another woman came in with her daughter; who was around Sue’s age. While her mother was doing paperwork this girl went directly to the garbage can and was just as spellbound as Sue and Holly…..?
Photobucket
Am I stupid to be curious about how the minds of children work? Is it just because the garbage can is shiny? Or because it moves? Or are the drawn to it because it is shiny, and then continue to be amused by it because it moves? I think it’s the third. I seriously need to be a psychologist; otherwise people will think Im crazy.
Don’t mistake me, I don’t think you girls are interesting in the girls and the garbage can; I just don’t want to forget it.
On with life without epiphanies:
I am completely enveloped in a book series. The first one is called One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. I am one book two right now. though these books are wonderful they came to me at the wrong time. I have so much I should be doing and I find myself just wanting to sit in my bed and read all day. I have homework, fanfiction, cleaning, piano practice, and Hera knows what else to get done and I just want to sit and read. And there are thirteen books in the series. It’s sad. Anyway you guys should read the books, they are pretty funny.
I must go read them now, bye!
